Having children ages 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 together permits the younger children models for imitation, and older children an opportunity to reinforce their own knowledge by helping the younger ones.
Dr. Montessori never equated goodness with silence and immobility. Self-discipline, she felt, should be acquired gradually through absorption in meaningful work.
The Montessori environment offers the child the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of materials. The child can grow as his interests lead him form one level of complexity to another.
